Welcome to the International Centre for Eyecare Education

Thank you for visiting our education resource download page.

Education is central to ICEE objectives of establishing sustainable eye care services for the benefit of underserved communities throughout the developing world. Only through education can we build local capacity and create sustainable solutions for addressing uncorrected refractive error and other forms of avoidable and preventable blindness.

The Refractive Error Manual is now available in English, Spanish and Portuguese.  It is a multi-layered, interactive education resource that takes students and teachers through refraction training in an uncomplicated way. Simply click on the language icon you require in the top right corner and follow the login procedure to access this handy resource.

The Primary Eye Care Manual aims to provide the knowledge and practical skills required to conduct a primary eye care examination and treat or refer as appropriate. The manual comprises of 27 subject units, including diagrams, pictures, flow charts and case studies to illustrate key concepts. It can be used to develop training programmes based on local needs and is suitable for training community, members or interested personnel and assumes no previous knowledge of the eye.

Vision centres are a key component of establishing sustainable eye care in developing countries. The ICEE Vision Centres: An Introduction may be used to train project staff about the vision centre concept. This resource provides both theoretical frameworks and practical examples on how to implement the concepts discussed within the field.

At least 670 million people, mostly in the developing world, are blind or vision impaired simply because they don't have access to a basic eye examination and a pair of glasses.
